Plot

Stage fright and a stage: the settings of Echo’s latest engagement. The young singer Rayna Russell is being threatened by a fanatical fan. Again and again she receives letters in which the young man says he will kill her. And after one of her backup singers literally goes up in flames during a concert, her manager decides that help is needed.

So Echo is put at her side as “Jordan”, backup singer and bodyguard. The two young women quickly become friends, and soon a side of Rayna emerges that even her manager did not know. But Echo is not the only one working on this case: Sierra is also placed in Rayna’s surroundings, as a fan who has won a meeting with her star. She is allowed backstage during the concert and into the VIP lounge afterwards.

Before the next concert “Jordan” finds letters from the fan and talks to Rayna about them. It turns out that the singer is in regular contact with the young man and knows perfectly well what danger she is in. She says that this risk is what makes her feel truly alive, and she is completely wound up.

She calls the concert the “biggest show ever”. “Jordan” realises that something will happen tonight and does everything she can to get Rayna off the stage and stop the concert. She only succeeds after someone shoots at Rayna. Backstage Rayna has an honest talk with “Jordan”, and it becomes clear that she is not happy with her life.

She is a manufactured product and no longer herself. The crazy fan makes her feel she is something – so she is not nearly as afraid of him and of death as her manager assumed… She gets her kick from knowing that any second could be too late. The two women argue, and “Jordan” leaves the dressing room.

Meanwhile Sierra tries to get backstage but is kidnapped – by Rayna’s fan, of all people. He contacts Rayna and the manager by video and announces that he will kill Sierra if Rayna does not keep her side of a deal. It becomes clear that the singer and the fan were closer than anyone had thought.

“Jordan” follows Rayna and finds her alone in an abandoned part of the concert building. The two women talk, then “Jordan” knocks the singer out. At the same time a police unit breaks into the fan’s apartment, where there is a message from “Jordan” on the answering machine: she wants to trade Rayna for Sierra.

A little later the four young people meet. But they are not alone: Boyd is also in the building, only waiting for the order to shoot Sierra’s kidnapper. He is told to wait a little longer. Meanwhile “Jordan” gets Rayna to say that she thinks her fan is crazy. She throws the singer off a scaffold – but Rayna’s hands are tied to it.

The fan runs to her, so “Jordan” can knock him down. Echo and Sierra are then picked up by their handlers and brought back to the Dollhouse. However, Echo’s behaviour, which she was not programmed for, leads to some discussion in the Dollhouse. Some even demand that she be eliminated.

Meanwhile Agent Ballard makes personal contact with his informant Lubov; he is so fixated on the Dollhouse that he abandons the rules of secret contact. His informant admits that he does not believe there is a Dollhouse. Shortly afterwards, however, he contacts Ballard and sends him to an abandoned warehouse, where several members of the Mafia take him by surprise.

He realises that he has been lured into a trap and that nobody knows anything about the Dollhouse. In the fight with the Russians he is shot. In the ambulance his heart stops.

In the end, however, he is shown alive in hospital. His neighbour Mellie, who appeared briefly before, tries to visit him.
