Summary
Angel's continued restless nights send him into dreams of 1860 London and his first encounter with Drusilla , but when he sees Darla in his waking life, Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn fear he has gone off the deep end and may revert to his evil ways.
Plot
Lilah slithers into Lindsey’s darkened office. It is apparently empty and Lilah starts to rifle through Lindsey’s paperwork on his desk. Darla crawls from the shadows, startling Lilah. Lilah explains that she needs to know what Lindsey’s next move is, and that he’s probably doing the same thing in her office. Darla pours some ocean blue powder into her one hand, and Lilah notes that it is a magical powder called Calynthia powder. Darla is apparently drugging Angel with Calynthia powder, keeping him asleep while she’s with him. Darla reveals that Angel dreams about horrors.
Angel wakes up in the middle of the night, and enters the lobby of the Hotel. Cordy and Wesley are arguing, by insulting each other and calling each other names. Angel asks what is the argument about, and they reveal they were arguing over whether Gunn should be paid or not. Cordy explains that Gunn does a lot of work for Angel Investigations, and deserves to earn some money from it. Wesley points out that Gunn is a proud man, and might view a pay-cheque as charity. Angel says he’ll think about paying Gunn, on a case-by-case basis. Angel’s disturbed sleep patterns are under scrutiny by Wesley. Cordy has a vision, of a girl screaming. Angel leaves, heading for the girl, at Hollywood and Wilcox. Cordy reveals to Wesley that Angel is going to be too late.
A girl is in the alleyway, crying, and being attacked by two men. A dumpster slides across the alleyway, crushing the two men into a wall. The girl begins crying even harder.
When Angel gets there, there is an ambulance and several cop cars. A gurney, lead by two men, wheels out a body. Angel walks underneath the yellow police tape, pretending to be a detective. A police officer explains to Angel that somebody pushed a two-ton dumpster at the two men, who had to later be scraped off of the wall. Angel realises that there was a girl there, and Angel can track her from the blood she left. Angel walks further down the alley, right before the real detective shows up.
In an empty warehouse, Angel finds the girl, whose head is bleeding. Angel asks the girl if she was in the alley, and the girl panics. A piece of re-bar shoots off of the ground and impales Angel through his right shoulder. The girl tries to leave, but Angel tells her he’s all right. The girl claims she’s staying with a friend. Angel gives her a business card, before the girl leaves. Angel realises that his injury actually does hurt and falls over.
The girl fumbles with her keys outside an apartment door, when the door is opened from the inside. Lilah Morgan is there. It is revealed that the girl’s name is Bethany. Bethany enters the apartment.
Inside Lilah’s apartment, Lilah questions Bethany about the nightclub. Bethany is apparently staying with Lilah, who once spoke at Bethany’s highschool. Lilah told Bethany to look her up if she was ever in Los Angeles. Lilah tells Bethany that she has a power about her. Bethany goes to bed.
At the Hotel, Cordy is taping up Angel’s wound, while Wesley speculates about the attacker. Angel explains that the girl is staying with a friend, she isn’t local, she’s possibly on the run, and she’s very strong. Angel suggests that she might have telekinesis. Gunn arrives, carrying a homemade axe. Angel explains to Gunn about the telekinetic girl who killed the two would-be rapists by throwing a dumpster at them. Cordy reminds Angel subtly to pay Gunn. Angel asks Gunn to figure out who the two dead guys were, and Gunn leaves. Angel tells Cordy and Wesley that he’s going back to sleep, and Cordy points out Angel was only up for three hours. Angel tells them to find the girl, and heads back to bed.
Bethany is lying in bed, awake, Eventually, she falls asleep. In Bethany’s dream, a little girl is in an attic, when a man enters into the attic. Lilah watches Bethany sleep, while she telekinetically rocks objects on her dresser. Bethany is told not to make a fuss by the man, who keeps calling her rabbit. The objects shake more, and Lilah smiles, until a lamp flies off the dresser and hits Lilah in the head. Bethany wakes up, realises what she’s done, and leaves, despite Lilah’s protests.
Bethany runs through the streets.
Angel and Darla are kissing passionately in front of a fireplace. Darla reminds Angel of the gypsy girl, whose death ended up cursing Angel. Angel and Darla both bite each other, and begin drinking the other’s blood.
Angel wakes up, to realise that Darla wasn’t actually biting his neck.
Angel walks into the lobby, and asks Cordy of her progress. Cordy has not found any information on the girl, and Gunn hasn’t checked in yet. Wesley has discovered that telekinesis is brought about during extreme emotional stress. Bethany appears at the door, and reveals herself to be Bethany Chaulk. Bethany seems to be very tired, so Angel goes to make her some tea.
In the lobby of Wolfram & Hart, Lilah is being reprimanded by Holland Manners on losing Bethany. It is revealed that Lilah sent the two men after Bethany the previous night, and that Lilah wants to turn Bethany into Wolfram & Hart’s assassin. Holland doesn’t think the plan is going to work, because Bethany is closer to being an explosion than a laser. Bethany calls Lilah, and explains that she’s somewhere called the Hyperion Hotel, with a strange man named Angel.
Angel asks Bethany if she’s crazy. Bethany reveals that she doesn’t want to control her power, but simply wants it gone.
Cordy watches Angel and Bethany, and decides that Bethany has a bad vibe.
Angel and Bethany discuss her talent, and determine that it’s an accidental talent. Wesley comes outside, seeing that Bethany doesn’t want Angel Investigations help, and suggests she go back to her father’s. Bethany gets mad and throws Wesley into a wall, and Angel out into the sunlight. Angel scrambles back into the shadows, smoking slightly. Bethany realises what she has just done.
Wesley explains to Cordy that he guessed Bethany’s telekinesis might have been brought about through a traumatic experience in her youth, involving her father. Angel tells Wesley to go home, and Cordy leaves too.
Angel finds Bethany in the top floor of the hotel. Bethany is embarrassed, and is hiding. Angel explains that not all people are bad.
Angel is again having the dream with Darla, when he was Angelius, and eating the gypsy girl. Bethany is walking around, and eventually finds her way into Angel’s bedroom. Bethany offers to make Angel happy, but shouts at him when he touches her. Angel asks Bethany to let him get some sleep, and she leaves. We see Darla hiding, watching Angel from around a corner.
Holland tells Lilah to get her out of there, because if Angel’s not well rested, it messes up Lindsey’s project. It is unclear whether Holland is referring to Bethany or Darla.
In the lobby, Angel has Bethany practice her power by lifting a red scarf off the ground. Cordy watches, as Bethany lightly drapes the scarf around Angel’s neck.
Cordy tells Angel to go meet Gunn at Brentwood, and she offers to take Bethany shopping.
Angel and Gunn break into one of Bethany’s attacker’s apartments. Angel stands outside, since he is not invited in by the owner, while Gunn looks around. Gunn explains that Bethany’s attacker was an expensive muscle-for-hire. Angel offers to pay Gunn for each case he helps with, and Gunn accepts. Angel falls into the apartment, after leaning on the invisible barrier. Angel decides that Bethany’s attacker is now dead. Angel hits redial on the speaker-phone, and is greeted by a receptionist of W&H.
Cordy, while buying Bethany some coffee, tells her not to have sex with Angel. Cordy reveals that she doesn’t want any of her friends, or herself, hurt by Bethany either. Bethany asks whether or not Cordy likes Angel, when a man runs past and inject Bethany in the neck. Two other men grab Bethany, and drag her into the back of a van. Cordy yells at Bethany to squash the men, but Bethany seems incapacitated. The van drives away, just as Angel and Gunn arrive in Angel’s convertible. Cordy points out the fleeing van, and Angel chases after it.
Angel tries to get in front of the van, but fails. Gunn takes the wheel as Angel jumps onto the front of his car, then the back of the van. Angel grabs out Bethany’s kidnappers and tosses them off the van.
Lilah is angry that Angel rescued Bethany, and tells a person on her phone to let Angel play with time-bomb Bethany. Lilah instructs them to pull the trigger.
Bethany makes her way to the top floor, as Angel explains that Lilah Morgan is evil. Bethany believes that Lilah is her friend, and Bethany starts to lose control over her powers. Bethany makes to leave, when the door opens, and her father is standing there. Bethany’s father greets her as rabbit. Bethany reacts, blowing out all the windows of their current room, and the hotel shakes for a second or two.
Bethany’s father explains that Lilah helped him find her, and he wants to help her get better. The ceiling starts to fall, and a nail flies into Cordy’s arm. Bethany’s father wants to take her home, and help her. Bethany is crying, and pins Angel to the wall. Bethany raises her father to the roof, and begins choking him. Bethany throws her father out the window. The father sails towards the ground, but is grabbed by Bethany’s power at the last second, saving him from a hard fall.
In Lilah’s apartment, Bethany is packing up her things, while Lilah tries to convince Bethany to stay. Bethany tells Lilah not to look for her. Lilah reveals that Angel is a vampire. Angel tells Lilah to find somebody else’s brain to play with. Lilah tells Angel that they have someone else in mind. Angel and Bethany leave, and Lilah slams her apartment door.
Dialogue

Table seems far.

Aww, you must be all worn out from sleeping for the last three days. It's like living with the world's oldest teenager. He can't be having a growth spurt at two hundred and forty-eight, could he?

Two forty seven.

According to my figures, if we're frugal and garner some paying clientele soon, we're financially sound through last Wednesday.

Where's it all going?

Well, there's the fixed costs, the mortgage on the giant hotel, my salary, there's lots of other--

Well, what about my salary? It's fixed, too.

What if, every time you identified a demon in one of your big old books, we gave you ten bucks? Or a chicken pot pie.

Wait, I have another idea. No. Get a vision!

Well it's not like you can hit me in the head and "wham!" it happens.

What if, we test that theory with one of my big old books?

It's disciples are human; they're killing each other. I think the fight is over how to worship it.

This is why personally I rarely go to church…I thought it was funny.

Gaah! I didn't doze off. Here I am. Where were we?

Saint Bridget's, in Fremont. A convent, built on native burial grounds. The land's cursed, they had eight murders in two years before the whole place burned to the ground, which is nothing compared to what happened at Our Lady of Lochenbee...I got a thing for convents.

We're gonna need some muscle. Call Gunn. He's on the payroll now.

Right! But not in a fixed way like me.

My Uncle Theo always said, "Never buy a dull plow, and never get in the middle of a religious war.

Do you really have an Uncle Theo?

Nah. But it's still good advice.

He hasn't been sleeping well lately.

He's off his game.

Since when is it a game?

He has Visa, MasterCard, a problem! He's our target audience!

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I've just been so out of it lately. Because of her. I saw her, here in town. Last night.

Oh no, not again. Look I like Buffy as much as the next--

Not Buffy, Darla.

I saw her. I'm not crazy.

Where?

Right between the clowns and the big talkin' hot dog.

You said yourself you've been having dreams, lately. Maybe it's guilt over killing your sire.

Right! Guilt! Who loves guilt like you love guilt?

You know what you need? You need to go back to work. We have an exciting new case: could be aliens, could be adultery. It's a corker!

What was that? We had a paying client.

Not everything's worth getting paid for.

Easy to say when you don't need solid food to survive.

Guess you didn't take that whole dust to dust thing to heart, did you?

Guys, that was really fun -- the public humiliation, running from the hotel security staff, and the nifty outfit which seemed to tell so many conventioneers "pet me, I'm a whore.

It was Darla. She's back, and she's human now, but I know her scent.

Angel, you can't just sniff a person and --

You had sex last night, with a bleached blond.

Good lord! How --

That's unbelievable. I didn't think you ever had sex.

Angel Investigations -- we solve big problems for small prices!

It's not like he turns evil every time he gets this cranky.

He turns evil?

As evil blood-suck vampires go, how would you rate Angelus?

Historically, as bad as they come. Especially when he was with his sire, Darla.

We're researching her now to see if she has some kind of resurrection powers. Maybe she's a vampire cat with nine lives!

So, he and Darla together, bad combo.

They rampaged through half the known world, until Angel got his soul.

Imagine Bonnie and Clyde if they had 150 years to get it right.
I know he hasn't changed.

No. He hasn't. He's still a vampire.

Gunn! Not helping!

What's the big plan? Get me so screwed up I go bad again?

Kind of trite, I know. But what do you expect? They're only human.

Better embrace that mediocrity, honey. You're talking about your own kind now.

All you have do, is let me give you one little moment of happiness.

You took me places, showed me things. You blew the top off my head. But you never made me happy.

But that...that cheerleader did?

You couldn't understand.

I understand all right. Guy gets a taste of something fresh, and he thinks he's touching God.

See? No matter how good a boy you are, God doesn't want you...But I still do.

We haven't seen you all day. We were just wondering if everything was, you know, copasetic.

I didn't go bad Cordelia.

Oh, I was never worried about that boss. Of course, Mr. Fussypants always assumes the worst.
