Summary

Wesley lies alone, bleeding to death, and waiting for help which may not come. While Fred and Gunn try to solve the mystery of Wesley's disappearance, Angel searches feverishly for a way to rescue Connor from the Quortoth.

Plot

In Angel’s room at the Hotel, Angel is staring at Connor’s empty crib.

Inside Wesley’s apartment, Fred and Gunn discuss why Wesley would take Angel’s son away. Gunn suggests that if Angel finds Wesley first, Angel will kill Wesley. Gunn also notes that all of Wesley’s important possessions are gone. Fred gets upset and starts searching for Wesley’s diaries. Fred and Gunn exit.

Outside, Fred and Gunn go in Gunn’s pickup truck, while Fred calls Wesley’s cell phone. Wesley, lying in the nearby park with his throat cut, looks lifeless, as his cell phone rings nearby.

At Holtz’ HQ, Holtz’ men are battered from the encounter at the Hotel. Justine arrives and stakes the two vampires they held prisoner for training purposes. One of the men ask where Holtz went, and Justine explains that Holtz escaped with Angel’s baby. Justine decides that she and Holtz’ men are going to finish Holtz’ mission, by killing Holtz’ sworn enemy, Angelus.

Fred and Gunn sit quietly after Lorne has just explained that Holtz absconded with baby Connor into the dark world of the Quor'toth. Fred takes this news very badly, because of her previous experience with portals. Gunn gets very frustrated, and asks Lorne if Team Angel is sure that Wesley took Connor away and gave him over to Holtz. Lorne explains that Wesley was definitely meeting Holtz behind their backs and that Wesley took Connor with no intention or returning. Angel arrives, claiming that he doesn’t care who or why, but he just wants to find Connor. Angel instructs Lorne to find out everything available on the Quor’toth. Angel reveals his plan of going to find his son. Gunn points out that a portal is needed first, and Wesley made the last one. Angel shows Fred and Gunn his sketch of Sahjhan. Angel explains to them that a demon, named Sahjhan, has been behind everything. Angel also thinks that Sahjhan can be used to re-open the portal.

At Wolfram & Hart, Linwood reveals to Lilah that he has just met Sahjhan. Linwood notes that Lilah met both Angel and Sahjhan without Linwood’s consent. Lilah assures Linwood that the report being composed included all of the details. Linwood warns Lilah that she should always choose his side, before asking about Holtz’ escape with Connor. Linwood vaguely threatens to remove Lilah’s mother from the nice nursing home, before leaving.

At the Hotel, Angel, Fred, and Gunn are researching. Fred explains to Angel that if there’s any information on Sahjhan, it’s written in another language. Gunn can’t decipher Cordy’s filing system. Fred tries to call Cordy, but Angel stops her. Angel doesn’t want to ruin Cordy’s holiday, and wants to have Connor rescued by the time Cordy returns with presents for Connor. Fred starts crying. Angel realizes that the research approach isn’t working, and tells Fred and Gunn to forget it, before leaving. Fred and Gunn realize Angel is not looking for Connor, but has decided to deal with those responsible for Connor’s departure. Fred and Gunn leave, to search for Wesley.

In the park near Wesley’s apartment, a homeless person finds Wesley. The homeless man steals all of Wesley’s escape money, before dragging Wesley’s body behind a bush.

Lorne enters the lobby of the Hotel, to find Angel looking at the weapon’s cabinet. As Lorne explains that there are no portals into the Quor’toth, Angel collects objects from around the office, such as an alligator staple remover and a phone message spindle. Angel and Lorne move to a higher floor, and Lorne explains that it would take a lot of dark magick to get to the Quor’toth, and once there it would be nearly impossible to find Connor. Angel reveals Linwood is tied up to a chair and bruised, inside Angel’s room.

Linwood introduces himself to Lorne, while Angel continues his search for sharp objects. Angel has aparently kidnapped Linwood, and is now willing to torture Linwood with various sharp objects in order to get to Sahjhan. Angel calls Lilah on Linwood’s cell-phone, and Linwood instructs Lilah to give Angel anything he wants.

At Holtz’ HQ, Justine is alone, sharpening stakes. Fred and Gunn arrive and ask where Wesley is. Gunn is about to fight with Justine, when Fred breaks them apart. Fred realizes something about trash, when Holtz’ men arrive. Justine shoves Fred when one of the men is about to cut Gunn’s throat. Justine orders the man to stop.

Flashback: Justine ruthlessly cuts Wesley’s throat from behind.

Justine lets Fred and Gunn leave.

At Wolfram & Hart, Lilah walks Angel through a hallway, and into an elevator. Angel presses a long series of numbers into the elevator, and they are transported into the White Room.

Angel and Lilah are now in a cavernous, empty white room. A small girl in a red dress addresses them. Angel explains that a demon stole his son, whom he now wants back. The little girl explains that Connor is gone, but Angel can still get Sahjhan.

Flashback: A Granok demon who looks like Sahjhan decapitates a human soldier.

The little girl explains that she helped to make the Granoks immaterial.

Flashback: The same Granok charges at a soldier, but this time runs right through the soldier. The Granok is now immaterial.

Angel asks how can Granok’s be captured, and the little girl suggests a special urn.

Flashback: Another Granok is captured by three priests in an urn.

The little girl realizes Angel doesn’t want to capture Sahjhan, but wants Sahjhan dead. The girl offers to help Angel if he kills Lilah, but stops him right before he does. The small girl gives Angel a paper with a ritual on it for making Sahjhan material again. Angel and Lilah are removed from the White Room.

Outside Wesley’s apartment, Fred and Gunn search the trash dumpster for Wesley’s diaries. Fred quickly finds the diaries amongst the refuse.

Inside Wesley’s apartment, Fred notes that Wesley’s diaries were full of worry over an upcoming prophecy. Fred finds the note that reads ‘The Father Will Kill The Son’. Fred gets excited, realizing that Wesley only took Connor away because he couldn’t disprove the prophecy. Fred wants to tell Angel, but Gunn points out that Angel still isn’t going to forgive Wesley. Gunn notes that Wesley should have told the rest of Team Angel, instead of acting alone.

At the Hotel, Lorne begs Angel to reconsider. Angel and Lilah are performing some kind of a ritual, that involves a newly-drawn pentagram on the floor. Linwood is still tied to a chair, watching the scene. The spell requires human blood, and Lilah cuts her own hand instead of taking Linwood’s blood. Angel encants, and a figure appears in the middle of the pentagram, while lights shoot off. Angel uses a sword to attack the figure, who disappears unscathed. Angel gets mad and asks Linwood where Sahjhan is.

Sahjhan appears in the middle of a street, surprised. A truck runs full-pelt into Sahjhan, before hitting an oncoming station wagon. Sahjhan emerges from underneath the truck, knocking it over. Sahjhan seems excited to be corporeal again.

In the Hotel, Angel drags the chair-bound Linwood up the stairs, as Lilah and Lorne watch. Lilah reveals to Angel that a bio-plasmic disturbance appeared right after Angel cast the spell, and the disturbance flipped a truck over. Angel makes to leave, letting the chair break and freeing Linwood. Fred and Gunn arrive, blocking Angel’s escape, and explain that Wesley believed a prophecy in the Nyazian scrolls confirmed that Angel would kill Connor. Angel leaves. Lorne explains why Lilah and Linwood are there. Linwood promises to make Angel pay, before Lilah and Linwood leave.

Outside the Hotel, Justine stakes Angel with a stake-crossbow, which doesn’t kill Angel. Angel is attacked by four of Holtz’ men, whom are defeated easily. Justine attacks Angel, and Angel knocks her over with considerable ease. Angel warns Justine, and leaves. Fred and Gunn exit the Hotel, surprised to see Holtz’ men all over the ground. They witness Justine fleeing in Wesley’s truck, before following her.

The street where Sahjhan appeared is in disarray. An ambulance is being loaded with patients, several cars are wrecked. The driver of the truck sits on the curb, and is approached by Angel. The man named Al explains that he hit a ‘man’ and hurt all these people. Angel smells Sahjhan’s blood on the front of the truck, before leaving.

In Sahjhan’s lair, Justine hides. Fred and Gunn arrive, and question Justine on Wesley’s whereabouts. Justine reveals that she cut Wesley and left him for dead. Fred punches Justine, and Gunn knocks Justine over. Gunn tells Justine to take them to Wesley. Sahjhan appears, offering to have a real brawl.

Fred and Gunn recognize Sahjhan from Angel’s sketch. Sahjhan remembers how Justine tried to decapitate him, and flings her across the room. Sahjhan makes as though to attack Fred and Gunn, when Angel appears. Justine flees. Angel offers to let Sahjhan live in his newly acquired material body if Sahjhan helps Angel to find Connor. Sahjhan says no. Sahjhan reveals that he rewrote the prophecies in order to confuse Wesley. Angel realizes that Sahjhan was worried about Connor, not Angel. Sahjhan quotes the original prophecy, that stated Connor would grow up and kill Sahjhan. Angel vamps and attacks Sahjhan, with the aid of Fred and Gunn. Sahjhan is about to stake Angel, when Justine reappears, carrying a special Resikhian urn. Sahjhan is trapped inside the urn. Justine reveals that Wesley is in the park next to his apartment.

Outside Wesley’s apartment, Angel, Fred, and Gunn search for Wesley. Angel announces that Wesley has been taken somewhere, but he was here.

At the Hotel, Lorne explains that the blood from the pentagram isn’t washing off. Lorne explains that Angel did the best he could with the information he had, just like Wesley did. Fred calls, and tells them that Wesley is in a hospital.

At the hospital, Angel is greeted by Fred and Gunn, before being ushered into Wesley’s room. Alone, Angel talks with Wesley, who is in pretty rough shape. Angel reveals that he understands why Wesley kidnapped Connor. Angel explains that he isn’t Angelus, before grabbing a pillow and trying to smother Wesley.

Outside, Fred and Gunn are hopeful that Angel is forgiving Wesley. Several nurses and doctors rush into Wesley’s room, alarming Fred and Gunn, who follow. It takes the effort of everyone besides Angel and Wesley to pry Angel off of Wesley. Angel is dragged kicking and screaming into the hallway, while Wesley lies there, trying desperately to breath.

Dialogue

AngelAll I care about now is getting my son back. Then I'll deal with those responsible. They'll all pay. Including Wesley.
L
LinwoodStill, big win for Holtz.
L
LilahIf you call jumping into a cesspool hell dimension a win.
AngelWhat about the files?
GunnThey're in English... Cordelia's filing system isn't.
AngelI know she was keeping some kind of list of time/space shifting entities.
GunnOkay. So's that under "time" "space" "shifting" or "entities?
AngelLet's check all of it.
LorneAngel... who is that?
L
LinwoodLinwood Murrow. Division president of Special Projects for Wolfram and Hart. And you are?
LorneDeeply troubled.
LorneAngel, this isn't some slimy demon you've got trussed up here -- he's a human. Marginally, but still
AngelA demon named Sahjhan has taken my son.
G
GirlAhhhh, does he want his little baby back?
L
LilahThere is no other way.
LorneI think not speaking would be a really good look for you.
FredAngel, the prophecy --
AngelIt's a lie. I'd never hurt Connor.
FredHow can you know that for sure?
AngelI'd never hurt someone I care about. Now move.
AngelI'm not your boyfriend. Find somebody else to smack you around.
GunnStay down.
J
JustineUm, no.
S
SahjhanReally? You and me, buddy cop summer release? We iron out our wacky differences and bond? Don't think so.
S
SahjhanNo, that, I'm telling the truth about. Whole universe could go kaplooie. Bad for me, bad for America
GunnYou wrote the prophecies.
S
SahjhanMore a re-write.
FredThe father will kill the son.
S
SahjhanYeah. I flitted back and forth in time, changed the one that threatened me, polished some others. Flitted in a manly way. Just so we're clear.
S
SahjhanBoy, can't put one over on you, can you? Oh wait, already did. It's pretty freaky the first time you see your name in a true prophecy, all carved in blood on an official scroll. "The one sired by the vampire with a soul shall grow to manhood and kill Sahjhan." Me.
FredSo you planted false prophecies. That Angel would kill his son... and Wesley believed them.
S
SahjhanThank God he had some spine. Holtz was useless.
S
SahjhanDo I look like I need more skin problems?
